Walking to Easter

Walking to Easter

This past weekend my youngest niece, Quinn, turned one. My brother-in-law Jay and his wife Jamie had a small birthday party for a few friends and family. I noticed one of the decorations at the party included a picture of Quinn, one for every month from the time she was born until she turned one. One month old, two months old, three months old…so on and so forth. It takes time to bring a decoration like that together, twelve months to be exact. There is preparation and planning for all aspects of a party, birthday or otherwise. There are details to think through and things to do to get ready. There is also the anticipation of the event itself. It is something to look forward to and be excited about.

This past Sunday we began our walk to Easter. In four Sundays, we will celebrate the thing, the event…the moment that changed the world. The Resurrection is the single greatest event in human history. It is the linchpin that now defines everything that came before it and everything that happens after. If we are going to be ready—I mean mentally, emotionally, and spiritually ready—to really celebrate Easter this year, we need time to prepare.

We would never show up for a party we are hosting without first thinking through some details and preparing. Why would we show up to celebrate Jesus without preparing?

Prayer: God, help us prepare our hearts and minds to celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of Your Son, Jesus. Help us memorize, pray, and sing your Gospel. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Grace and peace,

Aaron
