TNT

This article is all about TNT. Don’t worry, I’m not talking about the AC/DC rock n’ roll song (can a pastor admit he knows that song?)… or the chemical compound with the preferred scientific name 2-methyl-1,3,5-trinitrobenzene (yes, I Googled that)…

I’m talking about TNT: Transportation and Transformation. Even before I became the pastor at PSBC in August, there was a lot of conversation about our old bus and the need to replace it. After August, that conversation started to include and often be directed at me…as in, “Pastor, what are we going to do about that old bus?” On Sunday at our church conference, we started moving forward. Our plan is to sell the bus and replace it with a new bus to make travel for Triple L, our youth, our children—our church—much easier, safer, and more convenient.

As I reflected on the church conference and the unanimous decision to move forward on our transportation needs, I thought about Easter. All too often we think about the death and resurrection of Jesus as only a means of transportation. As in, because of His Cross, we can be transported to heaven after we pass away to be with God for eternity in Heaven. Hear me clearly, that is 100% biblical and accurate. We thank God for His grace and mercy in that plan, our salvation. But…I wonder how often we miss the other “T.” The Gospel is also about transformation. The message of Jesus was not just the Kingdom of God in Heaven and eternity on the other side of this life. His message was about transforming your life right now.

Romans 6:4 (ESV) says, “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” As we approach Easter, remember to walk in that newness of life with Jesus right now. Let’s be transformed as we wait to one day be transported.

Prayer: God, help us prepare to celebrate Your Son, Jesus. Help us memorize, pray, and sing your Gospel. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Grace and peace,

Aaron
