This Sunday’s Summer Recap was incredible. If you were not able to join us, I encourage you to watch online and hear the stories and testimonies of how God moved in the life of our church this past summer.
I was reminded of the first section of Matthew 18 where Jesus taught the disciples that we are all to have a child-like faith and welcome children in His name. This Sunday was a great reminder that, if we are watching and paying attention, our children and youth in this church are great educators. They have so much to teach us about what it means to take steps of faith, live life to the fullest, and follow Jesus as He guides us.
Jackson Early (5th grade) spoke on Sunday about his amazing first Camp HoriSon experience. He said something that stuck with me and affirmed what I long suspected. He talked about how the youth being his leaders during that week were part of what made the experience so special. Youth leading children. Youth—who not that long ago were campers themselves—were guiding younger children through the activities, teaching them how to have fun, and all the while sharing the love of Christ with them. Becoming a Camp HoriSon leader is a rite of passage for our youth. It is a great example of how the church as a whole should function as well: disciples making disciples, making disciples….all through their childlike faith. Let’s not forget that lesson as we move into this fall.
On my ordination Sunday, I said that this is a starting line for our church. In the coming two Sundays, we are going to talk about what our foundation is and where we go from here. I’m excited to see where God takes us as we continue to go and make disciples.
Have a great rest of your week and we look forward to seeing you soon!
Grace and peace,
Aaron
