Teacher Teacher

Teacher Teacher

I grew up watching ABC’s TGIF. Most Friday nights with my family were spent watching shows like Family Matters, Full House, and Step-by-Step. One of my childhood favorites was the show Boy Meets World. The show featured a great relationship between the main character Cory and his teacher/neighbor Mr. Feeny. Mr. Feeny always imparted wisdom and shared more than just the knowledge of the classroom with Cory and his friends. Great Mr. Feeny quotes still ring in my ear: “Believe In Yourselves. Dream. Try. Do Good.”

This past week, our kids went back to school. Other “big” kids went back to college or off to college for the first time. Teachers and professors have spent time preparing their lessons and classrooms, some of them all summer long (looking at you Mrs. Hinton). They will spend lots of time with their “kids” throughout this year. Teachers, administrators, and coaches will love, educate and prepare young people. They will have a lasting impact on so many lives over the course of this year. Educators are a big deal.

In our church, we have lots of teachers. I don’t just mean those in the public school system (although we have lots of those too). This Sunday we are going to recognize those that have given their time to prepare and teach Sunday School each week. There are more than 40 people in our church who prepare a lesson for their class each week. It takes 20 people just to teach our children and youth classes each week. Sunday School is a great time of fellowship and diving into God’s word. I’m grateful for the first Sunday School teachers I had at this church, Sid Bryson and Aaron Edwards. Each week they challenged me, encouraged me, and brought Biblical truth to life in practical ways.

Sunday School is alive and well at Poplar Springs. We are blessed to have so many that have stepped up to lead in this way. We are always looking for new teachers. This is a great time to consider stepping up to lead, co-lead, or assist in a classroom. It is also a great time to plug into a class. There is something for everyone, all ages welcome. Let us know how to help you find a place to plug in.

Have a great rest of your week and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Grace and peace,

Aaron
