We All Need Help

As most of you know, I am fairly new to the world of technology and computers. For the longest time I thought a modem was a bathroom device and a monitor was a lizard. I thought a keyboard was where auto mechanics placed these small ignition utensils on the wall when you took your car in for repairs. I spent thirty years avoiding computers. They grew in popularity but I was worried about getting hooked on solitaire or pressing the wrong button and finding myself on some questionable website resulting with me being handcuffed, walking in slow motion to the courthouse on the eleven o’clock news. I have watched The Shawshank Redemption numerous times – nobody believes you are innocent. I have said all this to emphasize that I am scared to death of computers and I know very little about them.

That is why I am thankful for those who assist me in my ignorant state. Katherine is our unofficial minister of computers. Gerry is obviously our technical guru, and Gilina is our newsletter editor pastoral computer fitness instructor. I couldn’t navigate the complicated world of digital technology without them. I need them!

In the Christian life we need help as well. At times we are confused. Perhaps we are even in danger of pressing the wrong buttons and heading down the wrong path. It could be that you just don’t know where the power button is as your faith seems to have lost its effectiveness. It is then that you call in the team. You can call it a support group or accountability partners. This group could simply be called friends or fellow ministers. You hopefully call them church family or even fellow strugglers. But the fact remains we need not try to live our faith in isolation. As different and peculiar as we can be ….we need each other.

Well, I gotta go. My computer fitness instructor is getting ready to be impressed. I think I am going to try to send her this little essay. However, if it doesn’t make it to her email I am sure I can call on her for help.
