Uncertainty

Uncertainty

“God said to Moses, “I AM who I AM…”
Exodus 3:14

On Sunday, we looked at God’s relentless love through the Passover in the book of Exodus. One of the passages that leads up to that moment is God calling Moses to go to Egypt and confront Pharaoh. You can read the full story starting in Exodus 3.

Moses’ burning bush experience is one we all remember reading about. What a moment for him… to hear from God and be invited to join God in His work. But it is easy to overlook the uncertainty for Moses even in the midst of the presence of God.

He gives God five excuses why he can’t be the one to do this task:

Moses says, “Who am I to confront Pharaoh?”
God says, “I will be with you.”

“Suppose I do go… what am I supposed to say to the Israelites? Who do I say sent me?”
“I AM has sent me to you.”

“What if they don’t believe me?”
“I will give you three ways to convince them.”

“But I’m not a good public speaker.”
“Who makes human beings able to talk? Who makes them unable to hear or        speak? Who makes them able to see?” Who makes them blind? It is I, the Lord, now go. I will help you speak. I will teach you what to say.”

“Please send someone else.”
“Take your brother with you.”

Each time Moses gives an excuse out of his uncertainty, God reassures him with His promises. He is the great “I AM” who will be with him every step of the way.

In our own uncertainty, God’s relentless love remains constant—steady when our hearts waver, faithful when our path feels unclear, and close by when we feel lost. His love does not depend on our understanding of the moment, but on His unchanging nature. He loves us with an unfailing love.

Prayer: God, thank you for your relentless love and how it shows up for us even in our uncertainty. Teach us to share it with others in the same way you give love to us. In Jesus’ holy name we pray, Amen.
