Hump Day is Jump (for joy) Day!

Hump Day is Jump (for joy) Day!

At the college where I studied, the administration partnered with the student council to surprise the students one “secret day” during the Spring semester. About the time the dark ages (winter months) were easing up and the “study-itis” and “spring fever” was setting in, a note would be slipped under the dorm room doors announcing “Wonderful Wednesday” when all classes were canceled and special foods and treats were served and group games were scheduled in a festival of relaxation to spur us on. I looked forward to “Wonderful Wednesday” each year – it was a great day.

The same thing is true here at Poplar Springs Baptist Church now that the full Wednesday schedule is back in action. Last week, sure enough, we had a Wonderful Wednesday together. I was excited to see and hear the buzz of fellowship as the Body of Christ came together in support of one another as we looked to Jesus to lead us. I saw twenty-eight children in children’s choir, nineteen GA’s, ten RA’s, ten children in the Nursery and Mini-Missions, a total of thirty back together in the youth room, along with a room full of WMU women and down the hall the Women’s Bible Study (Brotherhood will be added in October too!). The fellowship supper crew encouraged our appetites, and the table fellowship encouraged our hearts. The evening was capped by our adult choir preparing to lead us in worship. Yes, “hump day” is a “jump (for joy) day” when sisters and brothers in Christ gather together to study the Bible, encourage one another, pray together, and tune in to the creation of a “soundtrack for life.” We look forward to seeing you here next week!

On most Wednesdays, following fellowship supper, I will be leading a Bible Study before we pray together. During these months leading up to Advent, this Bible Study theme is “Your Name is Near” based on Psalm 75:1 which reads: “We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds.” In Scripture, when God interacted with Bible-people he would often reveal some part of his name OR those folks would give God a name based on their experience with him. That being so, as we look at these names of God, we find ourselves in contact with his character and we realize more and more how he goes to work in our lives as we trust him! His names prompt our praying for ourselves and others along the way.

See you soon on the next “Jump Day!!”

In the Love of Jesus,

Tony Tench
