“Go. Share. Repeat,” is the theme for this week’s Camp HoriSon at Poplar Springs Baptist Church! But it is also the theme of this past Sunday’s called church conference at which our congregation overwhelmingly affirmed the recommendation of our pastor search committee that Aaron Hinton should serve as our next Pastor!
- Go. The Search Committee was commissioned to prayerfully search for our next pastor following the retirement of Andy Oliver last year.
- Share. The Committee shared with us their unanimous recommendation even as Aaron shared his very specific calling to serve Poplar Springs where he and Downey and their children have served the Lord and grown in love with this fellowship for several years.
- Repeat. The loving pastoral care that Andy and Kim offered across more than a decade of service is now followed by what we already know as a commitment to the spiritual growth of our church family that Aaron and Downey have embodied faithfully before us.
It is exciting to be part of this journey toward the future of ministry at Poplar Springs. Janet and I have been richly blessed by this fellowship of believers and blessed to be able to witness the beginning of your next season of ministry.
And speaking of blessings! At Camp HoriSon this week, I have been so encouraged and impressed by all that I have seen so far. Nicole and Katherine serve so well to team up for the sake of the Gospel! Their vision for ministry, spiritual growth-based curriculum planning, and enthusiastic interaction with the 112 campers is truly outstanding – I have been blessed to serve alongside these dear ministers of the Gospel. The talented and faithful team of adults that have assembled to lead and serve in the various aspects of the camp have encouraged the kids and made a difference in the lives of children. This is a wonderful ministry of the church to say the very least.
And, then there are the youth and college students who are serving as small group encouragers and counselors. Talk about impressive. I have loved watching their interaction with the children – they have been responsive and caring as they have cheered on the campers in their groups. I am thankful for the commitment of these young people to the success of the camping experience – they are treasures indeed.
All of this in support of the theme, “Go. Share. Repeat.” Each day these campers are learning about another facet in the gem of the Gospel that is treasured in our hearts. They are learning that we have been called by Jesus to GO everywhere and SHARE his love, and then, to REPEAT the going and sharing again every day. This is the theme for the future of our church and the future of the church of Jesus Christ around the world! We pray for Poplar Springs and our new Pastor as we embrace this theme together!
In the Love of Jesus,
Tony Tench
