Dear Church Family,
At the recommendation of the Deacons, there will be a vote to name Rev. Andy Oliver as the first Pastor Emeritus in the long and distinguished history of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. The vote will come on August 18, 2024.
Pastor Emeritus is a very special honorary title given because of exceptional service rendered to the church and the Kingdom of God. Granting such a title is a way for Poplar Springs Baptist Church to honor Andy Oliver’s remarkable career in ministry.
By conferring the title Pastor Emeritus to a retiring minister, the church recognizes his dedicated service to the church. It is not routine and is bestowed in gratitude for an extraordinary ministry career.
Pastor Emeritus is an honorary title that has no official duties or pastoral authority. The Pastor Emeritus is not considered a regular church staff position. The title of Pastor Emeritus has no monetary compensation.
The apostle Paul urged, “Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance” (1 Thessalonians 5:12). He wrote to Timothy, “Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching” (1 Timothy 5:17).
The Deacons are honored to be able to bring this recommendation to the church for a vote on August 18.
Sincerely, your Deacons,
Tony Blanton, Sid Bryson, Clyde Buckner, Doug Francis, Phillip Glover, Rachel Hamrick, Nellie Harrell, Roger Harris, Jesse Hunt, Janet McSwain, Heather Poston, Clay Putnam, Jimmy Queen, Brett Reynolds, Phil Talbert
