“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”
– Buddy the Elf
Each Sunday this December I have mentioned how much music means to me during the Christmas season. I’m sure many of you share my affinity for Christmas music. From the hymns to the special music, children’s sweet voices to the choir’s cantata, all the Christmas music has such a special way of ushering in the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
In the Gospel of Luke chapter 2, we find the interaction between the shepherds and the angels. The host of angels join the party and praise God saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” I know the text says they “said.” But can’t you hear that melody? The sweet song calling us to the manger to celebrate the birth of the King.
So play your favorite songs…the ones that bring you joy and spread Christmas cheer. Crank up the volume for all to hear. Let the music of the season prepare our hearts and minds for the coming celebration.
