There are so many people in our church that serve in a variety of ways. From the nursery to Wednesday night meals, small group leaders to Sunday School teachers, it takes a village of people to do ministry well here at PSBC. We are very fortunate that so many volunteer their time and talents, some on a weekly basis, to our church.
This past Sunday, a special group of those called to serve met in the small dining room. Our newly elected deacons met with the current and outgoing deacons for the first time. Our outgoing deacons, Phil Piercy, Sharon Carey, Jeanne Price, and Andrew Day, have all served this church well over the last 3 years. Their service began during the pandemic, and they met those new challenges head on. I want to personally thank them for all they have done and will continue to do for the Kingdom in this place. At the meeting, Roger Harris (chairman), Janet McSwain (vice chairman), and Heather Poston (scribe) were selected to serve as deacon officers for the coming church year.
As many of you know, Phil Talbert, Clay Putnam, Rachel Hamrick, Sid Bryson, and Jimmy Queen were selected by the congregation to serve as our new deacons. Dustin Hayes was also selected to serve as an alternate. We are honored and excited to ordain Clay Putnam for deacon ministry on October 8. Rachel, Sid, and Jimmy have all been ordained and previously served PSBC in this capacity. Though new to the role at our church, Phil Talbert has also been previously ordained as a deacon by the legendary Rev. Tony Tench.
We trust and pray that our entire group of deacons will continue to be a vital part of the ministry team here at Poplar Springs. Let me encourage each of you as I did the deacons on Sunday using 1 Timothy 3 as a guide: Be wise, exercise self-control, be guided by the Holy Spirit, and live and serve in a manner that represents Christ.
Hope to see you Wednesday night!
Grace and peace,
Aaron
