As I write my article for this week, I am sitting at a place I know very well and love to visit. This is Caswell week for our youth group, and Nicole let me join in the experience. I’m here with our group of 47 youth and chaperones along with other churches from all over North Carolina. We have our large group worship sessions in Hatch Auditorium. Since the 1960s when it was constructed, Hatch has been a place of worship for teenagers and adults alike. I promise you this: worship with 1,000 teenagers is a beautiful experience.
One of the praise and worship songs they sang this morning was “I Speak Jesus.” It may be a song you’ve heard on Christian radio or your favorite streaming service. The words stuck out to me this morning so I wanted to share them with you:
Shout Jesus from the mountains
Jesus in the streets
Jesus in the darkness over every enemy
Jesus for my family
I speak the holy name
Jesus
‘Cause Your name is power
Your name is healing
Your name is life
Break every stronghold
Shine through the shadows
Burn like a fire
I just felt like someone needed to read those words today. Whatever you, your friends, or your family are facing, speak Jesus into it and over it. The name of Jesus has power…His name brings healing…His name brings life. The name of Jesus breaks the chains of sin and shines into the darkest of corners.
Let’s allow Jesus to burn like a fire in us and through us this week.
Prayer: God, we speak the powerful name of your Son, Jesus, over everything in our lives. Thank you for His presence with us even now. Amen.
