Sunday School Classes:
Toddlers and Babies – (Under 3 years old) Cribs and loving adults keep watch over these precious infants until they become mobile. Play time and children’s stories about Jesus from caring teachers along with a small snack and juice are part of the Sunday School hour.
Pre-school –(3 – 5 year olds) Mrs. Sharon Bess, Mrs. Hilda Blanton and Mr. Harold Bess follow a curriculum from Group Ministries to help these pre-school children get acquainted with God and Jesus. Let’s not forget play time and snacks as well.
Kindergarten – 2nd Grade, Mrs. Mary Blanton, along with Miss Jessie Blanton and Miss Jody Blanton spend time with lessons that include activities to lead these new school age students in learning about the Bible and Jesus.
Mrs. Anna Hunt and Mrs. Jeanne Price use Lifeway curriculum based on this age group to learn about the Bible, Jesus, and the church as they grow and develop a relationship with the Lord.
3rd through 5th – Mrs. Nicole Hamrick, Mrs. Heather Bryson, and Mrs. Jessica McSwain energize and challenge these older Elementary age students using Bible stories and studies from various sources.
Middle School –Tracey Morgan and Billy Asis help teach this growing group of students using the Smyth and Helwys Intersection curriculum. This group meets in the youth area.
High School – David Bryson, Randy McBride, and Matthew McSwain help team teach our oldest group of students using the Smyth and Helwys Intersection curriculum. They meet in the youth area.
Links – (college & singles) For those in college, single, or even in transition, Robert and Pam Callahan, along with Heather Wright have developed a great class for fellowship and discussion. This group meets across from the youth area.
Career Class – (20’s-40’s) This class of men and women is led by Aaron Edwards and Sid Bryson. While most of this class is made up of married couples and young families, anyone is welcome to join. This class uses the Smyth and Helwys ‘Uniform’ curriculum.
Shepherd’s Flock – ( 30’s-40’s) This coed class has independent study based primarily on topics determined by the class and occasionally by using Smyth and Helwys “Uniform” curriculum. There is no age limitation and members range in age from 30 to 50. This class meets in the Small Dining Room of the Family Life Center and is led by Tom Housel.
New Fellowship – (40’s-50’s) This class of men and women is led by Roger Harris and Bob Carey. Again, no age limitation for this class and members range in age from 40 to 60. This is another class using the Smyth and Helwys “Uniform” curriculum. They meet in the Family Life Center.
Original Couples – (50’s-70’s) As the name implies, this was one of the earliest established couples classes at Poplar Springs. There is also no age restriction in this class led by Wayne Hamrick. This class meets in the Family Life Center and uses Lifeway “Explore the Bible” curriculum.
Open Door – (60’s-70’s) This small, dedicated class of men and women is led by Joe and Martha Fraser. This class can be found across from the youth area in the main church building. Joe and Martha use the Lifeway “Bible Studies for Life” curriculum.
Russ/Ledford – (60’s Men) This all men’s class is led by Kent Russ and Frank Newton. Although the age of these men is primarily 50+, all are welcome. This class utilizes the Lifeway “Bible Studies for Life” curriculum. This class meets in the Old Sanctuary building.
Angels at Heart – (50’s Ladies) This all ladies class is led by Rachel Hamrick and Ava Bryson. Women of all ages are welcome. Rachel and Ava also use Smyth and Helwys “Uniform” curriculum. This class is located downstairs across from the youth area.
Gracie Bishop – ( 60’s Ladies)This all ladies class is led by Kay Lovelace and Shirley Lail. The class is located upstairs near the library. This class also uses the Lifeway “Bible Studies for Life” curriculum.
Ladies Bible Class – (Senior Ladies) This group of ladies is led by Mary Jo Blake and Carolyn Bess. The class is located across the hall from the Gracie Bishop Class.
Men’s Fellowship – (Senior Men) This senior group of men is led by George Litton and Jerry Blake and is located across from the church library. These gentlemen also use the Lifeway “Bible Studies for Life” curriculum.
While all the groups are split by age, anyone is welcome to join wherever they feel most comfortable.
